Round 10. 20th & 27th February 2010

At Western Youth Centre

Coromandel vs Western Youth Centre

First Day

Sam Cheek has scored his first century for the club - a whirlwind 111 from only 96 deliveries for the 1st XI. Sam batted with the typical aggression that he is known for and has provided Will Hillier with some competition in his quest for the Jack Hewett Award.
After captain Darren Coulter won the toss and elected to bat, Coromandel were in early trouble after the loss of Gareth Bruce (caught in the gully from an "unplayable delivery" in his 50th match) and Matt Longhurst (shouldering arms and losing his off stump) with only three runs on the board. However Sam combined with Rahsaan Oakey (60 from 49 balls) for a fifth wicket century partnership as they stole the initiative from section one pace-setters Western Youth Centre.
The score raced to 5 for 197 from only 37 overs at the tea break, but the momentum was lost after the break as the last five wickets crashed for only 20 runs.
The bowlers, led by Josh Lourens (2/14) and Gareth Bruce (1/15), put the side back on track as they picked up the first three WYC wickets for only 20 runs.

Coromandel 217 (S.Cheek 111, Oakey 60)
Western Youth Centre 3/61 (Lourens 2/14, Bruce 1/15)

Coromandel II vs Panorama

First Day

The 2nd XI had a tough assignment - against Panorama's 1st XI, one of the three top four opponents that the team have in the last three rounds.
After winning the toss, Darren Cheek opted to bat and was keen to see improvement in his team's batting - after they were dismissed for 87 last match.
They managed an improved, but still below-par, total of 145. Matt Moulton was the rock of the innings, lasting 87 balls to top-score with 33 while Tom Van Schaik produced the aggressive innings of the day with 31 runs and Andrew Magarey (27) continued his consistent season.

Coromandel III vs Sheidow Park

First Day

After being "inserted" by Sheidow Park V, Mike Maclean's 3rd XI displayed a consistent team batting performance making 219 - the highest score achieved on the wide expanses of Blackwood Hill Oval this season.
After an opening stand of 57 between Mark Lemmey (25) and Maclean (36), Brendan Richards (30) and Nick Raymond (50) compiled 92 runs for the fourth wicket but a middle order collapse reduced the score from 3/151 to 7/159.
With news reports coming in from the Western Youth Centre about Sam's impending century, a nervous Will "Barry" Hillier decided to score some quick runs to stay ahead in the
Jack Hewett Award. His score of 38 was from only 42 balls (remarkable as he only hit one boundary!) Hillier and tailenders Graham Carpenter and Andrew "Sarah" Ferguson added 60 runs for the last three wickets.

Coromandel 219 (Raymond 50, Hillier 38, Maclean 36, Richards 30)
