Round 5. 23rd December 2001

At Hewett Oval

vs Sheidow Park Maroon

Another win, this time in a one day match at home.
After a brisk opening partnership between Geordie Little and Tom Craig of 56 from only 46 balls, the team was always set for a score over 150. The partnership ended only when Tom Craig retired, having reached 33. He faced only 27 balls and with his favourite pull-shot, scored 15 out of 19 runs from one over. After the quick demise of captain Sam Cheek for one run, Tom Van Schaik and Jai Jones combined for a partnership of 70 runs. Van Schaik maintained the good form from the last match retiring for 33 and Jones increased his season total to 50 runs, still without an average! Brad Pantazis and Chris Moulton completed the run-feast with some quick running between wickets, Pantazis striking an enormous six over mid-wicket to leave the ball on the other side of Coromandel Parade. When the mandatory closure of the innings occurred at 10:43, 28 overs had been bowled and the score had reached a formidable 157.
The target seemed too much for Sheidow Park, and although 72 runs were on the board by time the first wicket was taken, 16 overs had passed and the required run rate was at a challenging seven runs an over. Chris Mitchell and Tim Potter chipped in with two wickets each, to ensure the result was never in doubt. The introduction of Jones into the bowling attack immediately produced two run-outs from consecutive deliveries, both from cover to the bowler's end, the first a direct hit.
For the first time this season, Coromandel's "destroyer" Max Cheek has been held wicket-less, though he could consider himself unlucky after Tom Craig failed to hold on to a difficult chance at gully.

Coromandel 3/157 (28 ov.) (Craig 33 ret., Van Schaik 33 ret., Jones 31 ret., Little 23)
Sheidow Park 7/125 (28 ov.) (Mitchell 2/10, Potter 2/12, Moulton 1/15) Scoreboard

Round 6. 13th - 20th January 2002

At Hewett Oval

vs Sturt

Day One

Batting first, the home team were in trouble early at 2/10 in the fourth over. From this point however, the bat dominated the ball.
Sam Cheek and Tom Craig contributed a third wicket partnership of 71 runs from only 65 balls, broken only by Tom's compulsory retirement when he reached 50. His half century, the first for Coromandel this season, was scored from just 37 balls in 38 minutes and included 10 boundaries, a vast majority reaching the boundary with great speed.
The (temporary) departure of Tom did not bring an end to the slaughter. Sam, dropped twice before reaching 14, moved confidently to his half century, scored from 58 balls in just over an hour.
By the time the drinks break arrived after 25 overs, the score had reached 3/158.
